Due to a warm and dry climate that lasts throughout the year, Phoenix is a popular destination for seniors. This pleasant climate is complemented by beautiful nearby scenery, including the breathtaking Grand Canyon, as well as world-class attractions and amenities offered by the sixth-largest city in the nation. For these reasons and more, 1 out of 10 people in Phoenix is over the age of 65.
Many quality home care agencies are available to seniors in Phoenix who wish to age in place rather than move to an assisted living facility. These agencies charge an average of about $25 per hour according to Genworth’s 2018 Cost of Care Survey. The average yearly cost, at 44 hours per week, is the same for both in-home care and home health care at $57,200. Care in Phoenix is somewhat more expensive than the United States average of $21 per hour for in-home care and $22 per hour for home health care.
At Caring.com, we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Phoenix area – complete with types of care provided, services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. In addition to our in-depth provider listings, we’ve compiled a list of resources to help seniors and their families access all the tools they need to age in place safely and gracefully.

Our elderly relative had a great experience with his nurse at Devoted Guardians for over a year. We were sad to part ways with her. On the other hand, our experience with the non-skilled care team was negative from day one when we first met with a sales representative who was an hour late to the initial appointment and who offered a sales pitch about the firm’s staffing levels and experience levels that was not met in our case. In other words, we had a night and day different experience between the skilled and non-skilled teams. In hindsight, I wish we had just stayed with the skilled team and kept our wonderful nurse for another year or more and avoided some major hassles and headaches.

I am a 95-year old client who has been using PrimeCare for over a year. I prefer to stay in my own home as long as I can, and with the excellent care I receive from my care-givers, I am happy to still be here. On the two days a week that I have help my "angel" arrives to help with my shower, and then she is busy doing my little housekeeping duties. (changing sheets, doing laundry, removing trash, etc.). She drives me in my car to doctor appointments, the library and the grocery store. We have become beyond client/helper – I have two loving and caring aides, for whom I am grateful. Oh, yes! Bill and Gina are always there to answer questions and work out solutions. Thank to you all!

We used Right at Home in Goodyear for caregivers for my aunt. Dee visited my aunt every weekday for 3 years. She was an exceptional caregiver. She was so caring, helpful, knowledgable and even as my aunt’s Dementia progressed she remained that way. I really don’t know what we would have done without her. I worked with Daryl in the office to coordinate services and believe me when I say I went to her with any and all questions. She answered them all very professionally AND with kindness. I had heard horror stories about finding responsible caregivers and reputable organizations to work with and was delighted to find Right at Home. They were a dream to work with and made my tasks so much easier.

They do a great job ensuring that the caregivers for my dad are the right fit. And they are receptive to any concerns we have or issues that come up. There is nothing cookie-cutter about what they do – they consider each client as an individual, and they are experts at making sure that both patient and caregiver are comfortable and happy in the situation. They also keep the family well informed of any changes or suggestions – regarding schedules or personnel on their side, or things the caregiver might notice or be concerned about regarding my dad. We could not ask for a better partner in my dad’s care than the Cave Creek Home Instead. – Gretchen R.

I would like to share my families experience with Preferred Care at Home of Scottsdale. Our family tried to keep our mom at home when she was developing Alzheimer’s, thinking that was the best thing. We all traded off the days of care but it became evident that mom wasn’t really getting the best of care because we had jobs, business deadlines we had to meet, along with our own families to care for. Therefore, we started the task of finding a care at home business that was up to our expectations for her care. We had heard of Preferred Care at Home of Scottsdale from some of our friends and set up a meeting with them. Sherman G, the owner, met with us and answered all of our questions, plus gave us a couple of references to talk to. Well, after that, we were satisfied that this company would be a great company to care for our mom. They cared for our mom for several years until the time came when she had to have greater care in an assisted living facility. Preferred Care at Home of Scottsdale deserves a 5 star rating as to the complete care they gave to our mother plus the caregivers that gave her such wonderful care.

My mom was adamantly opposed to having people in her house when she got home from the hospital, and it took quite a bit of convincing to get her on board. Now she doesn’t want them to leave!
Not only did they provide immediate (same day) care under stressful circumstances, they have far exceeded all of our expectations with regards to her personal care, keeping us aprised of day-to-day events (we all live out of state), recommendations for additional and alternative solutions and making my Mom feel safe and well cared for. We will always be grateful to the people at Griswold.

We have been using Home instead in Fountain Hills for over a year now. My husband is confined to a wheelchair and I have them come in twice a week to help with transferring for his shower. One of those days the caregiver also changes our bedding, and will change the furnace filter once a month (ladder involved) or anything I may have for him to do. He also stays with my husband so I’m free to go for lunch or shopping. He will help with exercises and will play cribbage with him. On that day he is here for 3-1/2 hours. If there is a problem with scheduling, either way, the staff works with us to accommodate our needs. They are always courteous and punctual, we are very happy with them and the services provided .

My caregiver, Gabby, from Kindred at Home is absolutely perfect. She has exceeded my expectations in every way. She has been the single most best person that I have had helping me. She’s extremely professional and extremely well trained in her procedures (since I am in a wheelchair), with bathing, showering, shampooing, skincare, everything. She goes the extra mile and does a fabulous job of cleaning out everything in the house.
I’m quite pleased with her and I wish I could have her with me 24/7. I had one evening with another person that was not of a size that could help me very well, but Gabby has been great. Since she won’t be working in the next two days, I’m hoping I will have equal quality care with the next providers from their caregivers. Gabby will come back Friday and start with her new schedule of 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
We were able to get the care started two days after I was released from the hospital. Everything has been smooth (thanks to Kindred at Home), when it comes to procedures and arrangements in getting someone quickly. We have a service dog, so the person needs to love dogs. My dog has taken to Gabby and they play and have a good time and she gets to go out regularly to go to the bathroom. Since we were in a condo, you have to go across the parking lot and up the hill for the area for the pets, so it’s not an easy job, and she could not be better at it.

Phoenix Home Care Resources
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Phoenix:
Address: 4120 North 20th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85016
Phone: (602) 441-4900
Provided at three different locations in Phoenix, this program provides free respite for unpaid caregivers who live full time with the person they’re helping. This is only available to caregivers, and the seniors they care for, who have never received aid from any federal program related to respite. Respite is provided at local Adult Day Health Centers where seniors can enjoy a variety of safe and educational activities.
Address: 1826 W. Broadway Road, #16, Mesa, Arizona 85202
Phone: (480) 774-0237
Rebuilding Together for the Valley of the Sun offers free home modification services so that seniors in Phoenix can reside safely within their own homes or rental units. Applicants must earn 50% or less of the median income for Maricopa County. Written permission from property managers is required for renters. Applicants can expect the review process to last three to four weeks. All work is performed by volunteers, and there is no warranty on service.
Address: 200 W. Washington Street, Phoenix, AZ 85003
Phone: (602) 262-6011
