The city of Cincinnati is located on the banks of the Ohio River in Ohio. It’s known for its arts, cultural and sporting events. Cincinnati has an estimated population of 303,940, and around 12.2% of its residents are aged 65 and over. It is a good option for seniors who need some help on a daily basis but don’t require the high level of care offered by nursing homes. Seniors living in Cincinnati pay $4,750 per month for assisted living, which is slightly higher than the Ohio state average of $4,350.
This guide provides a basic overview of assisted living in Cincinnati and includes a discussion about the drawbacks and benefits of retiring to the city, a list of free local resources for seniors and the average cost of senior care options.

I visited The Lodge Retirement Community. They let me in. Most time you can’t go in, you have to restructure your visits, and because of the COVID thing it’s been kind of difficult. It’s a nice place, but it’s $4,000 – $4500 a month, and my mom can’t afford that. The tour was very good. We didn’t try the food. The facility was clean. We just dealt with one person. She was very nice and very informative.
The rooms are nice sized, good, and clean. Overall, the whole thing is a nice layout, it’s just everything is so shutdown, so it’s kinda really hard to get a good opinion of anything right now. It is spacious. It has a large dining room and separate areas. They had big areas for crafty stuff, and they’ve had a lot of opportunities for them, like sitting areas and stuff like that. They have just about anything you need if you wanna pay for it. They didn’t have a pool. They had a gym.

Cottingham Retirement Community has a huge advantage to the rest of the facilities we visited. It’s less than a mile from my house, it’s very clean, and it’s been newly updated decor-wise. If I had any complaints at all, it’s that the apartments were a little bit small. The people were lovely, the activities were good, and the size of the building was excellent for my mother. Right now, that’s our number one choice. Everybody lives pretty much together, and Mom would technically be assisted. Most of the people we met were wonderful. We met lots of staff that day, and they were all very kind and concerned. We met a lot of residents who all were very happy. I was quite impressed. It’s a very homey place. They don’t worry about being exquisite. They’ve got a homelike atmosphere. There were people gathered down in the main lobby just chatting. There was one small area they were still redoing that was kind of closed off, but otherwise the place was immaculate.

My mom will be moving to Traditions at North Bend tomorrow. She will be in their assisted living. It’s a very nice building, and fairly new at only a year and a half old. The rooms are spacious, she’s going to be in a studio, and very nice. They offer plenty of activities. They also have a salon, a chapel, and an exercise room. They offer other services too and the staff is also very friendly.
The studio, I believe, is 400 square feet. It has several kitchen cabinets, dark-colored, very nicely done, and with nice fixtures. They have a microwave and a small refrigerator in the room. It’s half carpeted and then half laminate flooring. It offers big windows for light, a nice-size clothes closet, and high ceilings. The bathroom is extremely large with a very large walk-in shower and lots of safety bars. It has a very accessible handheld shower wand and an adjustable seat. It also has plenty of room to move around there with plenty of closet space for towels and necessities.
The dining area is very, very nice. It’s got a fireplace right in the middle as you walk in the place. That’s what you see straight ahead, they’ve got a fire going. A lot of times, people are very cold so it was just a very nice setting. It’s like a circular setting all around the fireplace and from what I could see, there’s plenty of seating, lots of windows with light, and you could see outside to the landscaping through the courtyard and it’s very nice. They have several places to sit like chairs, rockers, and tables. It’s also fenced off and it’s just very nicely done.
It’s U-shaped and my mom’s room would be at the other end. She’s able to walk with a walker but they also have benches everywhere in the hallway where they can sit down if they need it. They also have a very nice laundry room on-site where they could do their own laundry or someone can do the laundry for them.
I met some of the other people on the staff as well. They were very helpful and knowledgeable about answering questions and giving the tours. We took a tour twice for my mom because she had more questions and wanted to see the room again. They were fine with that and were very gracious. They asked for things that my mom might like, like a welcome package for her. They even sent her a wreath for her door, they baked her some sweets, and they came to her present address and delivered them to her to welcome her into the community, so they’ve been wonderful. They also helped with the paperwork, which there were lots and lots of papers to fill out, and they answered all of our questions.

We selected Provision Living at West Clermont for my mother. It’s brand new and they have state-of-the-art technology with infrared cameras in the room, so that they can keep an eye on the people without actually watching them. It’s not a camera like TV, but it can tell if a person falls and they use AI, and then it alerts everybody. When we were looking at this place and measuring the room and getting to plan for my mom’s furniture, it set off alarms and nurses came up and wanted to know if we were OK. It’s pretty cool. In infrared, it’s just a heat signature, so it can’t see anything. It’s for privacy issues. The food is excellent. I’ve eaten there a couple of times. So far, it’s been pretty amazing. They’re very attentive, very professional, and very nice. It’s got a lot of facilities. My mom isn’t using them yet because of some other things going on. She’s getting some physical rehab today.
The staff was a notch above, in my opinion. I’m pretty happy with it. My mom sounded excited the last couple of days and that’s a lot. They’ve been accommodating for my mom and us if we have questions. Also, the technology is amazing, like the infrared cameras to watch for falls or changes in behavior. It’s just pretty amazing. The food, for a place like that, is really good. My mom said the food is really good here. If she’s saying it’s good, it is good. I thought it was good and my standards are pretty high, too.
The rooms are nice and big. The bathroom is big, spacious, and bright, and there’s plenty of lighting if you want it. The facility is beautiful. It doesn’t feel like a hospital. It feels more like a hotel. Security is good. So far, we have no complaints. A lot of it comes down to my mom doing what she needs to do. They’ve been great and I don’t give a lot of reviews, so this is a big deal. For this kind of place, the food is really good, better than any other place. They can have pretty much anything they want between 7:00 in the morning and 7:00 at night. If they want to eat breakfast at 4:00 in the afternoon, they’ll make eggs and toast. They won’t do everything, but they can always get those meals done. It’s very flexible.
It’s clean and bright. They have therapy onsite, a movie theater, crafts, and rooms where they do big jigsaw puzzles. We saw a grand piano, a chessboard, and a checkerboard in the hallways where people could just sit down and kind of play a game and kind of be social at the same time. They’ve got other rooms, and there’s a courtyard with grills, and one day they were having a cookout for the guests. She’s in a better place with better care, better food, and she’s spending less. It’s less per month than she was paying before.

Ohio Living Llanfair was extremely nice but not upscale. The people were very helpful and gave me every bit of information that I needed. It’s a place that you have to apply to because if you have too much money, they won’t take you. Its a very structured place that offered all the facilities that I felt were necessary for the long-term for my parents. They had a one-bedroom and studio, three meals a day and buffets for lunch; dinner and breakfast were ordered off of a menu. The apartments were nice but small. The cost including the assistance was a better value. It wasn’t as nice and fancy of a place, but it had everything I felt my parents needed to live out their lives. They had people on staff 24 hours a day for any type of assistance that any of the residents need.

We toured Eastgate Village Retirement Living. I could only go in certain sections because of COVID, and he just showed me one apartment. I just didn’t feel that it was the right fit for my mom, it wasn’t very inviting, it was plain, it’s getting old, and I think it needs some maintenance done on it. It just wasn’t somewhere I would want to live. They weren’t having any community stuff, and we could only have one person right now in to visit her, like I would be the only person that could visit her, nobody else.
